Lake Land College’s Satterwhite wins 2013 IBEA Distinguished Service Award

Marcy Satterwhite, business instructor and coordinator of the desktop publishing and graphic design programs at Lake Land College, recently received the North Central Business Education Association’s 2012 Postsecondary Teacher of the Year Award for outstanding contributions to business education.

The Illinois Business Education Association (IBEA) recently awarded Marcy Satterwhite, business instructor and coordinator of the desktop publishing and graphic design programs at Lake Land College, the 2013 Distinguished Service Award. Satterwhite received this award due to her outstanding service and dedication to the IBEA at the IBEA Fall Conference held recently.

To be eligible for the award, the nominee must demonstrate exceptional service to IBEA, an ongoing commitment to business education, a willingness to work with others to improve business education, appropriate memberships in professional associations, membership in the IBEA, specific contributions to IBEA and to business education in Illinois, and a minimum of 15 years in the field of business education.

Satterwhite of Urbana has been a business instructor at Lake Land College since 1997. Beyond her responsibilities in the business division, Satterwhite is also a Diversity Education Task Force member and the sponsor of the B-GLADD student club.

Before teaching at Lake Land College, Satterwhite taught for three years at Charleston High School in Charleston, Ill.

Satterwhite began her career path at Danville Area Community College, graduating with an associate in science degree. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education with a teacher certification in business education in addition to a master’s degree in business education from Eastern Illinois University.

Satterwhite’s professional memberships include the IBEA, serving in leadership roles as an officer from 2008-2011 and as a current board member; Eastern Illinois Business Education Association (EIBEA), serving in various leadership roles including her present role as EIBEA president; National Business Education Association (NBEA); North Central Business Education Association (NCBEA); International Society for Business Education (ISBE); Delta Pi Epsilon (DPE); and the National and Illinois Associations of Career and Technical Education.

Satterwhite has been recognized by various professional organizations as an outstanding teacher and as an outstanding club advisor.
