“The Joint Is Jumpin” – that’s what the Lake Land College Community Choir will say when they gather to prepare for the spring concert season, which features that song and other hits from the Broadway musical Ain’t Misbehavin’.
The Lake Land College Community Choir will begin rehearsals for its spring concert on Tuesday, Jan.28. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday nights in the Lake Land College Theater from 7-9:30 p.m.
The choir is a group of approximately 55 mixed voices including both students and members of the community. All singers age 18 and older are welcome to participate. No auditions are required.
Choir members may earn one hour of college credit for singing in the choir. Interested singers can complete a registration form at the first rehearsal, or register online.
Registration for college credit is not required, however, and participation in the choir is free for those who do not register.
Selections for the spring season feature a group of African-American spirituals, with “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” and “Shall We Gather at the River.” Another set of songs will bring the warmth of the sun into the concert hall, including “The Sky, the Dawn, and the Sun,” made popular by the Irish group Celtic Woman.
“The choir presents a unique opportunity for area residents” said Nancy Caldwell, director of the choir and Lake Land music instructor. “Singers from many different walks of life come together to make new friends, improve their skills, and most of all, share in the joy of making music.”
Caldwell added that singers will enjoy the variety of musical styles featured in the spring program.
The season will conclude with a concert on Sunday, March 23, at 3 p.m. in the Theater.
