For the Lake Land College Foundation’s 35th Annual Photography Show, Jason Martini of Chicago will be this year’s judge.
Sponsored by the General Electric Mattoon Lamp Plant, the annual Photography Show will feature professional, amateur and student photographers.
According to Martini, he’s very excited to be a part of this year’s Photo Show, especially as this year’s theme is Street Photography.
“Street photography gives you the freedom to create and express yourself on a very personal level,” said Martini. “I love depicting a good story and an emotion. I always try to be objective when judging work in competitions, but a little magic never hurts! If I’m wondering ‘how on earth did the photographer catch this moment,’ then it’s magical to me”
The deadline to submit an entry form for this year’s show is Friday, Feb. 14. All photographs must be delivered to the Virgil H. Judge Learning Resource Center on the Lake Land College campus either on Tuesday, Feb. 18 between 12 – 5 p.m. or Wednesday, Feb.19 between 3 – 6 p.m. A $10 fee for each entry is being charged to help defray the cost of insuring photographs while they are on display at the college for professional and amateur entries. The student entry fee is $5 per photo. The entry fee is due at the time you submit your entry form.
Photographers entering the show will compete for prizes in five categories. The categories are as follows:
- Category One: any subject, color print, film or digital;
- Category Two: any subject, black and white print, film or digital;
- Category Three: any photograph following the theme of Street Photography, color or black and white print, film or digital.
All three categories will consist of the three divisions – professional, amateur and student photography. There will be one winner for each division in each category. The awards for the professional and amateur divisions will each be a $100 cash prize and the awards for the student divisions will each be a $50 cash prize. There will also be one Best of Show prize for $150 in the professional and amateur divisions, combined, and one Best of Show prize for $100 for the student division.
Presentation of awards and individual critiques for photographers who request one will take place during the reception on Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in the Virgil H. Judge Learning Resource Center.
