Lake Land College students who participate in the Post-Secondary Agricultural Student Organization (PAS) recently spent Spring Break in St. Cloud, Minnesota, where they represented Lake Land College at the National PAS Conference.
PAS membership now totals 1400 members from 62 chapters located in 18 states. Students had to qualify at the Illinois conference last fall in order to compete based on specialist areas in testing and problem solving.
The results of the competition are as follows:
Lake Land took first place in the sheep specialist category with team members: Dylan Sigrist, Farina, who also took second place individually; Luke Furr, Shelbyville, who also took third place individually; and Ben Oakley, Charleston, who also took ninth place individually.
Lake Land took third place in the beef specialist category with team members: Gabrielle Lemenager, Clifton, who also took fourth place individually; Kimberly Perkins, Effingham; and Katie Burns, Sparta.
Lake Land brought home second place in the swine specialist category with team members: Eli Peterson, Lakewood, who also took home second place individually; Chelsey Amman, Highland, who also took fifth place individually; and Maggie McClure, Newton, who also took eighth place individually.
Lake Land brought home fourth place in the livestock specialist category with team members:Trey Fecke, Bonfield, who also took fifth place individually; Conner Biehler, Shelbyville; and Alicia Wente, Teutopolis.
Lake Land brought home fourth place in the crop specialist category with team members: Aaron Jensen, Newton, who also took home sixth place individually; Jon Mette, Dieterich, who also took home seventh place individually; and Timothy Petty, Beecher City.
Lake Land took third place in the floriculture and horticulture specialist category with team members: Nichole Estes, Mattoon, who also took home sixth place individually and Mitch Hirsch, Mattoon, who brought home ninth place individually.
In the employment interview category for animal health, Kimberly Perkins, Effingham, placed fifth individually.
