The Lake Land College Board of Trustees awarded the 15th annual Business Partnership Award to North American Lighting (NAL) in recognition of its ongoing exceptional partnership with the college.
North American Lighting was presented the award for playing an integral part in developing the NAL Fast-Track Tech Program with the college.
In 2013, Lake Land College entered into an exciting new partnership with NAL, headquartered in Paris, Ill. The partnership between the organizations grew from the fact that NAL had been challenged for some time to find qualified employees to hire as its business expanded. The challenges the company faced were a result of ever-changing technological requirements and ever-stricter customer cost, dimensional and cosmetic requirements for their products. Major technological shifts in the auto industry presented an opportunity for significant growth and expansion of a highly trained workforce.
To meet that challenge, the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer Greg Conrad, a 1969 Lake Land alumnus, reached out to the college, noting its success in working with business and industry. Together, Lake Land College and NAL have collaborated to create a customized training program that guarantees employment at NAL upon completion of the eight-week course offered through the college.
“The leadership teams of both NAL and Lake Land College worked very closely along with Congressman John Shimkus to develop this program to meet the immediate need for skilled employees in a rapidly changing manufacturing climate,” said Lake Land College President Josh Bullock. “This truly is an innovative program developed intently with the idea that the student completing the course will begin employment immediately with NAL as a productive team member of their operation.”
Bullock said that NAL has been a true partner in every sense as the NAL Fast-Track Tech Program was developed by offering the needed resources and expertise regarding the changing trends in manufacturing as well as supporting the college financially for marketing and promotion materials.
“This partnership has been a catalyst to other programs and potential partnerships with industry,” said Bullock. “NAL has taken note of the innovative ideas and possibilities for their business that this program represents and because of this partnership, the college is looking to expand opportunities like this with other industry in our service area. There are many opportunities for Lake Land College to offer businesses assistance to help them expand, grow and improve efficiencies. Customized training programs available through the Center for Business and Industry allow the college to meet individualized needs of regional companies which will only lead to a more vibrant economy and way of life for the residents of Illinois.”
